DESCRIPTION

A Character Cottage Steeped in History. Step inside Penny Cottage and you immediately feel transported back in time. This delightful period home is rich in character, with exposed beams, low ceilings and original features that reflect its heritage and charm.

As with many historic cottages, there are some low ceilings, doorways and uneven areas in both the property and garden, along with a step down into the cottage — all part of its authentic character and charm.

The entrance hallway provides a practical space for coats and walking boots after a day exploring the Purbeck countryside. From here, a door leads into the cosy sitting room and stairs rise to the first floor.

Sitting Room

The sitting room is warm and inviting, with comfortable sofas, a television and a table perfectly positioned for board games or relaxed evenings in. A desk tucked neatly away offers a quiet spot for guests who may need to catch up on work during their stay. The beautiful fireplace (not in use) and exposed beams create a charming and atmospheric setting — ideal for peaceful nights after busy days exploring.

Kitchen & Dining Room

Leading from the sitting room is a bright and airy kitchen/diner, a welcoming space overlooking the pretty garden. The dining table comfortably seats six, with occasional chairs creating a relaxed corner for enjoying a morning coffee or planning the day ahead.

The well-equipped kitchen features a large fridge/freezer, electric oven, gas hob, integrated microwave and washing machine, ensuring everything needed for a comfortable self-catering stay is close at hand.

From the kitchen, a door leads to the ground-floor family bathroom, fitted with a bath and shower over, WC and wash hand basin.

Bedrooms & Bathroom

Upstairs, you will find two comfortably eaved bedrooms that retain the cottage’s historic charm. The king-size bedroom is decorated in keeping with the property’s character and contains an array of interesting artefacts that reflect its period style. From the occasional chair in this room, there are views over the rear garden — a peaceful spot to sit and unwind.

Bedroom two offers a single bed suitable for an older child or adult guest. Due to the older style of the cottage, its historical décor and traditional layout, Penny Cottage is not suitable for children under the age of 10.

Downstairs, from the kitchen, a door leads to the ground-floor family bathroom, fitted with a bath and shower over, WC and wash hand basin. Also upstairs is a separate WC with hand basin for added convenience.

Garden & Outdoor Space

Outside, the cottage garden provides a wonderful extension of the living space. A patio area with table and chairs offers the perfect setting for outdoor dining on warm Dorset evenings. A few steps lead up to a sensitively planted lawned garden, thoughtfully designed to provide interest throughout the seasons. The garden is a true suntrap — a peaceful, private space to relax with a book or enjoy a glass of wine as the day draws to a close.

Parking

Penny Cottage benefits from a permit for free parking in an allocated space at the nearby West Street car park, just a 5 minute walk from the property, making village stays convenient and stress-free.

Location & Local Atmosphere

Situated just moments from the centre of Corfe Castle, Penny Cottage places you within a two-minute stroll of the village square, traditional pubs, tea rooms and local shops. The historic ruins of Corfe Castle and the heritage Swanage Railway are also just a short walk away, adding to the magic of staying in this beautiful village.

The surrounding Isle of Purbeck offers endless opportunities for walking and exploring, with the sandy beaches of Studland Bay and the traditional seaside town of Swanage within easy reach. Whether discovering scenic coastal paths, visiting nearby attractions or simply enjoying village life, Penny Cottage provides an ideal and atmospheric base.

REVIEWS

The cottage was beautiful, clean and extremely well kitted out. Beds were comfy and we enjoyed the very pretty garden in the (unexpected!) sunshine. Great to be so close to the centre of Corfe Castle and just round the corner from an excellent playground which our child loved. Would highly recommend.

Charming stone cottage in centre of village. Lovely private garden with table and chairs for dining. Comfortable beds & sitting room. (Just watch your head in the doorways). Walk to shops and pubs. Would definitely return.

Our third visit and we stayed for 4 glorious weeks, to celebrate semi-retirement! The weather has been glorious too, so we've made a lot of trips to Studland beach. The sea swimming has been a highlight. Recommend Sandy Hill Arts events. Will miss Penny Cottage - its comfy beds, lovely garden. See you again soon.
